This performance offers families, friends, and community members an exclusive first look at the choreography our dancers have been preparing as they head into competition season.

The showcase highlights the hard work, growth, and artistry of our dancers across all levels, celebrating the dedication and teamwork that define MK Dance Company. It is a wonderful opportunity to support our dancers, experience their passion on stage, and see the creativity behind this year’s routines.

We are a pre-professional dance company that nurtures and develops the next generation of passionate, technical, and artistically driven dancers. We provide professional training right here in Wilson County with experienced, award-winning choreographers and teachers. We strive for a supportive and inspiring environment while equipping young dancers with the discipline, work ethic, and versatility needed for a future in dance.

Through performance opportunities, competitive experiences, and exposure to industry professionals, our dancers will gain the confidence, resilience, and stage presence needed in the dance world. We are committed to building not only strong dancers, but strong individuals, leaders, collaborators, and artists who are prepared to pursue their dreams with purpose and professionalism.

ELIGIBILITY & EXPECTATIONS

 

We welcome new dancers into our competitive programs each year, with annual auditions held at our studio during the month of May. All prospective team members must attend open auditions, be at least 4 years old, have prior dance experience, and pre-register with a $25 audition fee.

We offer 5 teams, Bittys (4-6), Minis (7-9), Junior Gold (10+) Junior Green (10-12), and Teen/Senior. (13-18). At age 10, dancers and parents have the option to explore multiple training pathways moving forward. Junior Gold requires less time and financial commitment while still receiving company-level training. It also provides an opportunity for newer dancers to take advantage of competitive opportunities. Junior Green is our pre-professional, most advanced track with a higher time and financial commitment. Placement on Junior Green is at the discretion of the Company Director. Not all dancers who meet the age requirement are guaranteed a place on the team. 

During auditions, students will be evaluated on their skills in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Contemporary, as well as on their flexibility, attitude, commitment, and technique. Dancers who have not previously taken classes are encouraged to complete at least one year of training before auditioning.

For the ballet portion, female dancers should wear a leotard and tights in any color or style. Fitted dance shorts may be added for the Tap and Jazz sections. Proper footwear for each genre is required, and no outside shoes are allowed on the dance floor. Hair should be pulled neatly away from the face in a ponytail or bun.

If a dancer is accepted onto the team, they will be required to register for summer classes and attend the MKDC intensive. Throughout the season they are also required to take the classes below through MK Dance Academy.

Directing MK Dance Company is one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. Every season, I get to watch these young dancers grow—not just in their technique and performance, but in their confidence, teamwork, and love for the art of dance. What makes this especially meaningful for me is knowing I’m providing local opportunities I didn’t have growing up. From the age of 8 through high school I had a twice a week turned 6-7 days a week drive of an hour into San Antonio to receive training that prepared me for a professional career in dance. When does the season start?

We have auditions every year following our MK Dance Academy Showcase. The audition date for our 2027-2028 Season is May 16, 2027. Our season starts with the MK Dance Academy summer sessions in June.

How many company members do you accept?

We currently do not have a limit on company members.

How many competitions will my dancer attend per season?

Our Bitties can expect two mandatory competitions and one convention, all in the local San Antonio area. Minis and Junior Golds can expect three mandatory competitions and two conventions (one out of town), and Junior Green, Teens, and Seniors can expect four mandatory competitions and three conventions (two out of town). There are opportunities for all dancers participating in solos/duets/trios to attend optional competitions throughout the season.

What classes are required as a company member?

We believe in training well-rounded dancers; therefore, Junior Green/Teen/Senior company members can expect to take Acro, Ballet, Contemporary,  and Jazz, with the option to take Hip Hop and Tap. Bitties can expect ballet/jazz technique, acro, and age-appropriate hip hop. Minis and Junior Gold can expect to take all genres. 

Are there required performances?

MK Dance Company proudly produces a production of The Nutcracker every holiday season. All company members will perform in The Nutcracker. There may be other performances opportunities throughout the season such as Peanut Festival, Christmas parades and more.

What do my company fees include?

Fees vary based on the number of routines your dancer performs per competition. Total company fees include competition fees, private instruction, costumes, and choreography. Company fees are charged separately from Academy tuition. 

Are there fundraising opportunities to offset cost?

Yes. We have had several members over the past seasons fully cover their dancer’s fees via private and company fundraising.
